Molar Mass

I. What is molar mass?
     A. The mass (in grams) of 1 mole of a substance is called the MOLAR MASS
     B. It can be deterined from the atomic mass found on the periodic table
     C. measured in g/mol

II. Molar Mass of Compounds
     A. To determine the molar mass of a compound add the mass of all the atoms together

Element
Molar Mass
KOH
39.1 + 16.0 + 1.0 = 56.1 g/mol
BF3
10.8 + 3(19.0) = 67.8 g/mol
H3PO4
3(1.0) + 31.0 + 4(16.0) = 98 g/mol
(NH3)2SO4
2(14.0) + 6(1.0) + 32.1 + 4(16.0) = 130.1 g/mol
